Cambridge golf prevails in playoff for Area 3 championship

MILTON, Ga. — Cambridge’s boys golf team captured the Class AAAAAA Area 3 championship in dramatic fashion last week at Woodmont Country Club, winning the title in a two-hole playoff.

After regulation play, Cambridge and defending Class AAAAAA state champions Johns Creek were tied at 302.

All of Cambridge’s six-member team, which includes Brad Plaziak, Blake Kollin, Ryan Demit, Blake Farbman, Matthew Leemann and Robbie Bentley, competed in the playoff.

On the first hole of the playoff, Cambridge recorded four pars and two birdies from Plaziak and Leemann.  The Bears then captured the Area championship with a dramatic eagle from Bentley and two more birdies from Plaziak and Leemann. 

In regulation, Plaziak led the Bears with a 72, finishing second overall. Plaziak was followed by rounds of 75 from Kollin and Demit who tied for fifth.

The area championship advanced the team to the GHSA state championship May 22-23 at Gainesville’s Chattahoochee Golf Club.
